Both death and life are in the power of the tongue
In Genesis, Chapter 1, we learn that God created the universe by the power of His words. Then He created Adam and Eve in His own image, thereby placing creative power in our tongues, too.
Both death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), so we must choose our words carefully.
King Solomon recognized the immense power of words: “From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things…He who guard his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.” (Proverbs 13:2; 21:23).
And his father, King David, prayed, “Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord” (Psalm 141:3).
What about your words? When you speak to your mate, to your children, to others, to yourself, are you speaking life or death, victory or defeat?
When God told Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, He charged him, “Be strong and very courageous…Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night.” (Joshua 1:7,8).
Meditating upon and speaking the Word of God were a must if Joshua was to possess God’s promises for the nation of Israel.
You and I must also meditate on God’s living, active and powerful Word (Hebrews 4:12) if we are going to be successful in any area of life. Regardless of our circumstances, we must choose to speak words of life and encouragement, meditating on Scriptures such as:
God’s Words says that He will not allow me to be tempted beyond anything I can bear. I can make it because God is providing a way out of this situation for me! (1 Corinthians 10:13)
I can do all things through Christ who is strengthening me today! (Philippians 4:13)
When we do this, we will experience God’s supernatural strength and help. Speaking life with our words will change the very atmosphere around us.
